Animals - Creighton

There are many animals in Fiji. Among them are dogs, goats, and horses.

On the road from Nadi to Suva, I saw several horses in the road. They looked strong. We waited for about a minute for the horses to cross. I think the horses wanted to stall us.

While walking to the grocery store, I saw an awesome dog and 6 pups in a front yard on Bau Street. The pups were about 10 1/2 inches long. They were all asleep except the adult dog. I said hi and one pup awoke and the adult dog started to bark at me. He probably thought I was trying to hurt the puppy. Those pups and the dog are really awesome.

When we were walking downtown, I saw a goat in a garden. It was brown and white. It was starting directly at us while eating grass.

These are some of the many animals in Fiji.

Persuasive Arguments - Easton and Creighton

Today we learned to write persuasive arguments! A persuasive argument is one that you try to convince someone to let you do something.
For example my brother and I convinced our dad to let us watch "Avatar: The last Airbender."

We learned that you have to say why you want to do it, how it effects the person you ask, and how we would benefit from doing it. You also have to add a topic and a conclusion.

Editors note: It also helps when the argument is well structured and fits in with the plans of the day.

Apparently all my posts are about food… - Karen

Indian food here is fantastic!  We've had take out a couple of nights from a few different places in Suva and I've yet to have any that wasn't delicious.  Roti (what we would call tortias in the States) is served at one place and last night we had Naan.  But the flavors of all the dishes are incredible.  And I would say that I do a bit of Indian food at home.  It has Jay and I convinced we need to figure out what dishes the boys would like so we can make this an even more regular rotation on our family meals.

It's 2013 - Jay

Happy New Year from the Kreshel Boys in Fiji. We are almost a full day ahead of home in California.

The boys stayed up until 2:30am Fiji time. That is actually 5:30 AM Pacific time. But a day later.

Moby - Creighton

At the house I'm staying at there is a cat named MOBY. He is snugly and playful.
Moby likes to snuggle. One time Moby came and snuggled me when I was reading. He sometimes snuggles me when I'm eating. Moby is really snugly.

Moby is playful too. We some how got strings for Christmas. The strings really came in handy. Moby plays tug-of-war with us when he isn't sleeping.

Drua - Jay

Today at the Fiji Museum, we learned about many things, including these awesome and massive boats once used to battle and transport goods.

The "Drua" is a double-hulled sailing boat that was found in the Fijian Islands here in years past. These vessels could carry over 200 people. They were owned by wealthy aristocrats and used as War Canoes.

These were fast boats with huge oars that required multiple men to manipulate. Their sails were large and triangle in shape to catch fast winds.

Their hulls were identical on both ends, as to not require a front or back when changing directions in the wind.

In the middle of the boat is a structure where the they could carry their cargo and protect the Chief from weather.

These boats as well as other artifacts have helped us learn about the history of Fiji.

Homemade Pies - Karen

On Christmas day, Terri and I made pumpkin pie and apple pie from scratch.  And I mean from scratch.  We boiled the pumpkin and grounded the nutmeg seed and rolled out the flour and butter pastry.  (well, we did add condensed milk from a can for pumpkin pie…but the carmel sauce for the top of the apple pie was even boiled from scratch.)  It was great.  Not only the taste, but the time with Terri was a treat in itself. I forgot to take a picture prior to the first round of consumption, but it was even better the second day…
